It should be noted that being an undocumented immigrant does not give law enforcers the right to deprive you of your rights. Human rights apply whether a citizen or undocumented immigrant. Some of the migrants’ groups in the U.S include:
Arizona Dream Act Coalition
This is an organization that was established by the undocumented students from Arizona. The students used to call themselves “The dreamers”. The group was formed with the objective of opposing a law that had been passed in 2006. This law required undocumented students to pay a huge tuition fee than other students.
The law also stated that undocumented students would not be given publicly funded scholarships. The students decided not to shy away and hide since they were undocumented. They decided to let the world know about their undocumented status. The group managed to achieve its objectives.
Arizona Dream Act Coalition group have remained in existence and continues to advocate for better conditions in the education sector. They advocate for equitable education rights, lower tuition fees as well as addressing issues of human and immigrants’ rights in Arizona.
The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund
This is a funds organization formed by Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. They are the co-founders of Village Voice Media and Phoenix News Media in Arizona. They got the money they used to start the organization from the state after they were awarded a settlement of $3.75 million by the court of appeals in the state.
The two were caught up in a case in which they were charged with revealing proceedings of a grand jury case covering the actions of Sheriff Joe Arpaio. This fund is used to support the activities of rights groups around Arizona and the southern border.
